In this course we get to know p5.js and learn how to create images, motion and interactive web experiences with code. No prior programming experience is needed — we learn the fundamentals alongside visual, engaging projects and step by step enter the world of generative art and creative coding.

The course runs over two terms. Each term is 8 sessions of 2 hours, with a certificate from Otaaared upon completion.

Syllabus

Term 1

Introduction to the p5.js environment and language
Drawing and coloring with code
Programming fundamentals: data, variables, conditionals and events
Basic data types: numbers, text and colors
Advanced methods for drawing shapes
Working with color, type and text data
Time, motion and interaction in programming

Term 2

Composite data and collections
Loops in programming
Designing functions and system parameters
Objects in programming
Libraries and how to use them

Hands-on projects

A generative painting tool
Abstract pattern design
A simple game
An interactive web experience

Prerequisites

Basic computer literacy
No prior programming experience required — every concept is taught from the ground up.
