Ahmad Moussa is an algorithmic artist, programmer and writer. Raised in Lebanon and now based in Germany, he creates art and writes under the name Gorilla Sun. He currently runs a platform and newsletter dedicated to creative technology.

Reaction Diffusion

This installation is an interactive version of the reaction diffusion algorithm. This algorithm was researched in 1952 by Alan Turing, where he discovered that the interaction between two chemicals can lead to many interesting patterns that we also find in nature. Here we simulate this chemical reaction in a digital setting, where the color of each pixel represents the concentration of the chemicals. Depending on the initial conditions we get completely different patterns, try changing the pattern with the mode toggle. You can also touch and drag the screen to directly interact with the pattern itself.
