// Biography
Shirin Sheybanizadeh is an Iranian graphic designer based in Berlin. She studied Industrial Design at Tehran University of Art and Communication Design at HMKW in Berlin. Much of her professional practice revolves around letters and typography, from editorial design to posters and visual identities. Alongside this work, she develops her own generative design tools, often beginning with mental associations that she seeks to translate into textures, movements, or observable behaviors. Underlying this approach is a phenomenological interest in perception and lived experience, exploring visual correspondences for the connections that emerge between external phenomena and inner experiences.

Skin of Materials
Until two years ago, generative art brought to mind endless lines of code and engineered playfulness: intriguing, but far from my world. I worked with letters and typography, drawn to design by two desires: a desire for order and a need to express my inner states. At some point, my experiences gained layers that no longer fit within a static image. With a phenomenological question about how experience takes shape through associations, I turned to code to define the conditions of an image rather than its final form. Skin of Materials grew from a lived experience, a mechanism that links the behavior of matter to memory and association. Its name and default text, The Skin of Water, poetically reflect its visual behavior and the mood in which it was made.
