BIT ROTS
- 2026
BIT ROTS is an interactive archive of Iranian cultural memory in which attention becomes a destructive computational force. Visitors encounter digitized photographs, printed matter, handwriting, and other archival fragments. Touching the screen locally pixel-sorts the image around the point of contact, and repeated touches deepen the damage. The regions that attract the most collective attention become the least legible. The work reflects on a paradox of digital preservation: making culture visible and machine-readable can preserve it while also exposing it to extraction, abstraction, and reuse as data.
